Is Bikepacking the new bike touring?
Bike touring, bikepacking, adventure biking – the differences of the mentioned bike categories are fine. It is not up to us, as a manufacturer of high-quality drive trains, to define the limits of the individual areas of application. We know only one thing: Cycling is the trend! The desire to set off with little luggage, discover nature and push the limits is greater than ever before. It’s a good thing that our gearboxes are ready for any adventure – and so are many manufacturers!
In our article we present 12 Bikepacking bikes with Pinion transmission!
Co-Motion Divide, 🇺🇸
The US-American touring bike manufacturer Co-Motion offers several Pinion models, all of which are available as modular systems. In other words, the customer puts together his dream bike to suit his individual needs. Shown here is the Divide model – frame and fork are designed for the highest loads and are welded from butted Reynolds 725 tubes. Disc brakes, three bottle holders and luggage rack eyelets front and rear leave nothing to be desired. Practical: Co-Motion offers the so-called Co-Pilot option for the frame. This allows the frame to be separated into two or three parts without loss of any riding stability.

Nicolai Argon CX Pinion 🇩🇪
The concept of the Nicolai Argon CX Pinion is called “a bike for everything” – a bike with which you can commute to work every day, do your after-work lap, but also set off for an overnighter or a bikepacking tour lasting several days. The handmade (and custom-made frame on request) frame is made of 7020-T6 aluminium. The bike is equipped with Pinion C1.12 transmission and Gates belt drive, DS2 rotary shifter, disc brakes and Supernova lighting. There are numerous configuration options available for this model!
Solace Cycles OM-1P 🇺🇸
It could hardly be more individual! The US frame builder Solace Cycles offers a choice of titanium, aluminium or steel as frame material. The whole thing is of course made to measure. Here we show a titanium model. The frame OM-1P from Solace Cycles is compatible with 27,5 x 3.0″ as well as with 29 x 2.6″ tires. The frame features numerous braze-ons for cages, cargo, and bags, including three-pack cargo cage mounts on both seat stays. The geometry of the OM-1P is close to that of the more trail-oriented OM-1, but slightly more upright for long-distance tours and cruising trails.
