Tristan and Belén set out
to discover Ibiza, Formentera,
Mallorca and Menorca by bike

TransBaleares by bike

The Balearic Islands are well-known and popular vacation destinations, especially among Europeans. While Ibiza and Mallorca in particular struggle with their reputation as “party islands” and have attracted more and more outdoorsmen in recent years thanks to successful campaigns, Formentera and Menorca are less popular. That’s exactly why Tristan and BelĂ©n – who comes from near Valencia on the Spanish mainland – set out to explore the islands by bike. They grab their bikepacking bikes, pack up the essentials and set off on a 4-week tour of the four largest Balearic Islands.

As it is always nice to hear from other people´s adventures, but it’s even nicer to set off yourself! This is why the both of Tristan and BelĂ©n share the complete route over those four islands in the Spanish Mediterranean with you! Get a first impression of the landscapes, the topography, some challenges and receive helpful tips in an entertaining video episode of each island.

If you feel inspired and want to follow the route, you can get the complete TransBaleares GPX data on Komoot.

For them, traveling on a bicycle has become a personal project that grew from a hobby into something much bigger. “For the longest time we’ve asked ourselves the notorious question that we’re all thinking of; what do I really want to do with my time – what kind of difference do I want to make in the world? For us, cycling is the key, as it answers some of the biggest concerns of our society and environment. It does not pollute. It motivates people’s kindness and trust. It shows an alternative to the normality of consuming and living in general — not mentioning the major physical and mental health benefits. We’re thrilled to represent companies that stand for the same qualities, and therefore be part of the Tout Terrain, Pinion and Gates Carbon Drive adventure team.”

The equipment

TOUT TERRAIN OUTBACK

“Our bike of choice for any multi-day adventure is the Tout Terrain Outback Xplore 29”. The frame is extremely strong, with very comfortable, wide handlebars and ability to ride wide tires, too. We love the simplicity and sturdiness of this bike. Likewise, the Pinion C1.12 gearbox and Gates carbon belt add an even more reassuring assembly: this bike will keep going, whatever we throw at it!”
