OUR PROVEN GEARBOX TECHNOLOGY

Modeled after proven automobile transmission technology, Pinion Gearboxes use highly efficient spur gearing with two sub-units connected in sequence. The individual gear ratios are derived by matching the two sub-units with various cog pairings. Depending on the configuration, the gearbox offers 12 or 9 gears with an unmatched range of 600% (12 gears) or 568% (9 gears) that are ideally suited to a wide range of applications.

The nucleus of the motor powering the Pinion E-Drive System was a state-of-the-art, compact and wear-free brushless electric motor for industrial applications made in Germany. We say ‘was’, because the motor has been extensively modified with more powerful magnets and completely redesigned to fit the application in an e-bike.

Actuated through electric shifting and powered by Pinion’s own hard- and software, it’s the heart and soul of a completely new drive system for e-bikes.

Depending on the configuration, the gearbox of the Pinion MGU offers 12 or 9 gears and ultra-precise and reliable electric shifting. But what about shifting under load? Fair question. Gearboxes don’t require a pedal stroke to shift gears and the gear change itself is near instantaneous. Thanks to Pinion’s self-developed electric shifting system and ultra-fineresolution torque and cadence sensors, the shifting on a Pinion MGU-equipped e-bike happens within a fraction of a second.
