The MGU can shift while riding, while being stationary and under load! It can instantly shift multiple gears at once or can in fact execute a pre-selected shifting command thanks to the Pre.Select and Start.Select functions.

No derailleur, no need for a chain and all moving parts are safely hidden away from water and grime behind industrial-quality seals inside of the MGU. It’s safe to say that this is the most reliable drivetrain any geared bicycle can have.

By eliminating the derailleur and the cassette we are able to reduce the unsprung mass substantially which results in better suspension performance and ultimately more traction, which is one of the most important aspects on any bike and any surface.

It’s also changing the appearance of E-MTBs forever. Gone are the days of pizza-sized cassettes and clunky derailleurs. Freed of the chains that quite literally held them back, the next generation E-MTBs features ultra-clean, super-light rear-ends with elegant designs thanks to belt-drives becoming the new standard.
No wear, no worries –
Maintenance-Free for 10,000 km
The MGU requires as much service as a Pinion Gearbox. Which is to say – almost none. The only maintenance required is an oil-change after every 10,000 km. The shifting system is safely hidden away inside of the MGU and does not require readjustments. Furthermore, there’s no need for expensive spare parts or replacements due to the systems construction and design principles.

The total weight of the Pinion E-Drive System is substantially lower than hub-style systems – up to 1 kg, in fact. But the distribution of mass is just as important: MGUs ensure an optimally balanced, low center of gravity and thus increased agility and balance. Additionally, full-suspension E-Bikes benefit massively from the lower unsprung mass at the back wheel which greatly increases suspension performance.
