The combination of the Pinion Smart.Shift and Mahle X20 was developed in collaboration with Desiknio. This unique bike combines the maintenance-free Pinion gearbox, a carbon belt transmission, and the Mahle X20 rear hub motor.

INTEGRATION

Pinion Smart.Shift combines the reliable and almost maintenance-free gearbox shifting technology with the advantages of pushbutton electric shifting. Shifting is done at the touch of a button – quickly, ergonomically, and intuitively. The system shifts while riding, while stationary, and better than ever before!

Further functions are also smart: The start gear can be preselected with Start.Select and is automatically engaged when you stop. Pre.Select ensures automatic shifting when you are coasting. All information has been combined in the Smart.Shift App and the various functions can be customized to suit your preferences.

A state of the art eBike, first of its class.

The Desiknio X20 Pinion Smart.Shift is equipped with a 250 Whub motor, an integrated battery of 240 Wh, and a central gearbox, weighing less than 15 kg.

THE STROMER UNIVERSE

“We are shifting into the future! The Stromer ST7 and ST5 with the electric Pinion Smart.Shift technology takes shifting performance to the next level. In close cooperation with Stromer, we succeeded in realising a complete system integration including power supply from the e-bike battery, as well as indication of the Smart.Shift settings and gear information in the e-bike display via CAN bus.

PINION SMART.SHIFT IS NOT ONLY RESERVED FOR E-BIKES.

Pinion offers a Smart.Shift version with its own battery in addition to the power supply via the e-bike system from Q4 2023. Thanks to the Smart.Shift battery pack, electric shifting is thereby also possible for Pinion MTBs, trekking bikes and, with the new TRP HYWIRE brake levers, also for Pinion gravel bikes. The target of the development was to be able to be self-sufficient for a very long time on the road even with an electric gearbox.

Exclusively at Eurobike 2023, titanium bike maker Pilot will introduced the Scram Pinion Smart.Shift gravel model, which features all-new TRP HYWIRE electric brake shifting units.

The Swiss professional team Gamux Racing has been relying on the advantages of gearbox technology in professional cycling for 2 years and is developing its own downhill bikes around the central gearbox for the DH World Cup. At the start of the 2023 racing season, Gamux starts with electric shifting and puts the gearshift to the ultimate endurance test. The TE1 Trigger shifter and the new semi automatic shift modes turned out as a real game changer. The development of serial MTBs from other manufacturers for the 2024 season are in full progress.

The TRP brake-shift lever unit (brifter) is a game-changing solution for the Pinion Smart.Shift, providing increased safety and convenience by enabling effortless gear shifting and braking without having to take your hands off the handlebars. With the TRP brake-shift lever unit, you can now fully concentrate on your ride. The ergonomically integrated shift buttons offer exceptional comfort and enhance the overall joy of your cycling experience.

CONNECTIVITY AND APP

The Smart.Shift system with its own battery has a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) interface and can thus be connected to the new Pinion Smart.Shift app. This allows the shifting behavior and shift button assignment to be customized. Functions such as Start.Select and Pre.Select can be optionally activated and set in the app. Information on charge status, software updates and a service tool are available at a glance. Dealers and OEMs also use the app to configure and calibrate Pinion Smart.Shift gearboxes.

SMART.SHIFT Gearbox

Pinion Smart.Shift gearboxes differ from the P and C line gearboxes in their internal structure. The shifting mechanisms and sensor technology are the main differences. Smart.Shift gearboxes are based on the C-line and are marked with an „i“. (C1.12i, C1.9i, C1.6i).

Shifter E-TRIGGER TE1

The ergonomic TE1 shift lever was specially developed for electric shifting with Pinion Smart.Shift technology. The rubberised button surfaces provide ideal contact points for the thumb and the haptic button tuning ensures precise shifting. Button assignment is fully customizable.

SMART.SHIFT BOX

The Smart.Shift Box controls the electric shifting in the Smart.Shift gearbox. Here, the signal from shifter is received and translated into a shift movement in the gearbox.

Smart.Shift battery pack

Thanks to the Smart.Shift battery pack, electric shifting is thereby also possible for Pinion MTBs, trekking bikes and, with the new TRP HYWIRE brake levers, also for Pinion gravel bikes. The battery pack provides well over 20,000 shifting operations, which corresponds to about 100 pure operating hours. The battery is waterproof according to IPX7 and can be mounted by the OEM either inside the frame or outside. In under 3 hours, the battery is fully charged via a dedicated cable interface.
